Stockman Motel’s commercial property in Narromine, NSW, was equipped with a 40kW solar system and 72kWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project was designed to help the customer achieve 90%+ independence from the grid while providing automatic blackout protection during random grid outages.
Before the installation, the property faced high electricity costs and growing energy demand as the motel’s energy usage continued to increase. Frequent and unpredictable grid outages created a need for reliable backup power, while the customer wanted to achieve greater energy independence and long-term self-sufficiency. The installation also involved a tile roof, requiring careful planning and experienced installation to minimise the risk of roof leakage during rainy weather.

Up Energy delivered a fully integrated 40kW hybrid solar system with 72kWh of battery storage, designed to maximise energy independence, reduce grid reliance and provide reliable automated backup power for the motel.

The installation generates an estimated 59,600 kWh of clean energy annually, helping Stockman Motel achieve approximately 94% energy independence and reduce electricity costs by up to 94%. The system also provides seamless automated backup power during grid outages, ensuring the motel remains powered when the grid goes down. Its environmental impact is equivalent to 1,078 trees planted, 17,902 litres of fuel avoided and 20,345 kg of coal not burned each year.
