Rebel AG Aviation Pty Ltd’s commercial airstrip facility in Trangie, NSW, was equipped with a 40kW solar system and 72kWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project was designed to achieve up to 90% energy independence from the grid while providing automatic backup protection during unexpected power outages.
Before the installation, Rebel AG Aviation faced rising electricity costs and increasing energy demand as operations at the airstrip continued to grow. Frequent and unpredictable grid outages also created a need for reliable backup power, while the customer wanted to significantly reduce reliance on the grid and improve long-term energy self-sufficiency. The solution also needed to support EV charging for employees and incorporate a unique rooftop layout featuring the REBEL AG business name.
• Rising electricity costs and increasing energy demand
• Frequent and unpredictable grid outages
• Need for reliable battery backup and blackout protection
• Goal of achieving greater energy independence and lower bills
• EV charging requirements for airstrip employees
• Custom solar panel layout incorporating the REBEL AG name
Up Energy delivered a fully integrated 40kW hybrid solar system with 72kWh of battery storage, designed to maximise energy independence, reduce grid reliance and provide reliable backup power for the airstrip.
• 40kW hybrid solar system
• 72kWh battery energy storage system
• 86 × 475W Trina Solar panels
• Fox ESS H3-Pro 30kW 3-phase hybrid inverter

The system was engineered to deliver intelligent energy management and long-term reliability, combining Fox ESS technology with expert in-house design and installation.
• Grid-connected hybrid system configuration
• Integrated Fox ESS energy storage technology
• Designed by an experienced electrical engineer
• Installed by Up Energy's in-house electricians and system designers
The installation generates an estimated 60,499 kWh of clean energy annually, helping Rebel AG Aviation achieve up to 96% energy independence and reduce electricity costs by approximately 96%. Beyond the financial savings, the system delivers a significant environmental impact each year, equivalent to 1,094 trees planted, 18,168 litres of fuel avoided, and 20,647 kg of coal not burned. With seamless automated backup power, the airstrip can continue operating reliably during unexpected grid outages.
